Unit 5: Art and design skills
Unit outcomes
Learners who are secure will be able to:
- Use a pencil to make marks.
- Observe an object and draw what they see.
- Draw a self-portrait.
- Listen and respond to music by painting.
- Use scissors safely and independently.
- Use scissors to cut different materials and make a collage.
- Fold, curl and cut card to make animal sculptures.
- Secure different parts of a sculpture together.
Suggested prior learning
This unit offers learners the opportunity to consolidate and apply their learning from the previous Stage 1 Art and design units.Lessons
Lesson 1: Observational pencil drawings
- To explore mark making using pencils by creating a simple observational drawing.
Lesson 2: Drawing faces
- To observe carefully and draw a self-portrait.
Lesson 3: Painting to music
- To respond to music using paint to express ideas and feelings.
Lesson 4: Cutting skills
- To use cutting skills to make a collage in the style of Henri Matisse.
Lesson 5: Paper animal sculptures
- To fold, curl and cut paper to make animal sculptures.
