Unit 5: Art and design skills
Unit outcomes
Learners who are secure will be able to:
- Draw a self-portrait using lines and colour to show movement and emotion inspired by the artwork of Hom Nguyen.
- Experiment with changing 2D sustainable materials into 3D shapes.
- Create a sculpture using sustainable materials inspired by Nnenna Okore’s artwork.
- Create artwork by photographing everyday objects arranged to make a picture in the style of the artist Vik Muniz.
- Apply techniques used by Hom Nguyen, Nnenna Okore and Vik Muniz to create a textured mixed-media portrait.

This unit offers learners the opportunity to consolidate and apply their learning from the previous Stage 5 Art and design units.Lessons

- To create an artwork by photographing objects arranged to make a picture.
Lesson 5: Textured portraits
- To use techniques from artists I have studied to make a textured portrait.
