Making expressive marks in art
This Art and design video supports teachers in delivering a lesson on line-making techniques. Designed for Stage 1 learners, the video helps you introduce children to the expressive potential of line through control and pressure, using a range of drawing materials such as colouring pencils, chalks, oil pastels and charcoal. The video also highlights the work of artist Bridget Riley, whose optical line art provides inspiration and vocabulary for classroom discussion and artistic experimentation.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Drawing: Make your mark unit, this lesson helps support teachers in leading purposeful, engaging lessons that nurture creativity and self-expression from the very start.
