Exploring paint and print with blocks

This Art and design video introduces learners to printing with paint, using simple materials to create bold and colourful patterns. Children learn how to apply paint to a textured surface, such as a building block, and press it onto paper to make a print. The video encourages experimentation with shape, colour and layering, including how to clean the block between colours and how to reverse letters to print initials correctly.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). In the Stage 1 Painting and mixed media: Colour splash unit, this lesson helps learners build confidence with paint and printmaking while encouraging creativity and problem-solving. By overlapping prints and combining colours, they explore pattern, repetition and the joyful possibilities of mixed media art.
