Plait, knot, thread

This Art and design video introduces learners to basic craft skills such as plaiting, threading and knotting—useful techniques that can also be used to create expressive artwork. Children learn how to plait three strands of wool or fabric, explore how to vary the look using different colours and textures, and experiment with adding beads or tying knots in different ways.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. It helps learners develop coordination, control and creative thinking as they explore the possibilities of fibre art. These practical, hands-on skills will later be used in a final woven artwork, supporting children’s understanding of how functional craft techniques can also be part of artistic expression.
