Making a map

This Art and design video helps learners explore how artists can use maps as creative inspiration. Children are guided to draw their own artist’s map based on a personal journey—real or imagined—focusing on key landmarks, colours and details that are meaningful to them. They are encouraged to make expressive choices and think about how their journey can be turned into a piece of artwork.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. It helps learners understand how maps can be used to tell stories and express ideas through drawing. As part of the Craft and design: Map it Out unit, this lesson provides the foundation for future creative work using felt, collage and mixed media.
