Stained glass

This Art and design video supports learners as they transform part of their map drawing into a colourful abstract artwork inspired by stained glass. Using a viewfinder to select an interesting section of their map, children simplify shapes, explore layering with tissue or cellophane, and experiment with colour and composition. Once completed, their individual pieces are combined to create a striking collaborative artwork.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. It helps learners develop craft skills and creative thinking by exploring abstraction and working with mixed media. As part of the Craft and design: Map it Out unit, this lesson encourages children to view their maps in new ways, using shape and colour to tell a different kind of story.
