Inventing creatures using recycled materials
This Art and design video explains how to guide learners as they invent and build their own 3D animal models using recycled materials. The focus is on designing creatures that use camouflage to blend into their environments, linking creative thinking with knowledge from the science curriculum. Learners are supported to explore how animals survive by considering habitat, movement and feeding, and to reflect these features in their junk model designs.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Stage 5 Art and design skills unit, this lesson helps children express imaginative ideas through sculpture, develop their making skills with recycled materials, and understand how design choices reflect function and environment.
