Ancient Egyptian art

This Art and design video introduces learners to Ancient Egyptian art and guides them in exploring its patterns, shapes and colours. Children experiment with creating textured or coloured backgrounds using techniques like tea-staining or paper collage. They then draw Egyptian-inspired imagery and decorative motifs onto their prepared surfaces, focusing on observation, mark-making and creative responses rather than completing a finished picture.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Craft and design: Ancient Egyptian scrolls unit, this lesson helps learners develop drawing skills, cultural awareness, and confidence in creative experimentation.
