This Art and design video demonstrates how learners create their own version of papyrus paper, the first step in producing their Ancient Egyptian scroll. Using brown paper, PVA glue and a layering technique, learners make sheets by overlapping vertical and horizontal strips to replicate the texture of papyrus. The process supports planning, precision and care in material preparation ahead of decorating their scrolls.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Craft and design: Ancient Egyptian scrolls unit, this lesson introduces learners to paper craft techniques while developing an understanding of historical materials.
