Designing Ancient Egyptian-style scrolls
This Art and design video supports teachers in guiding learners as they bring their Ancient Egyptian scroll designs to life on their handmade papyrus-style paper. The lesson encourages learners to plan the scale and composition of their design, sketch lightly and apply colour and detail with care. Learners are also challenged to reflect on their work and make refinements before adding finishing touches and transforming their artwork into a scroll using string or cardboard tubes.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Craft and design: Ancient Egyptian scrolls unit, this lesson helps learners express ideas visually, refine work using success criteria and understand how presentation can enhance artwork.
