Exploring sculpture with soft materials

This Art and design video supports teachers in guiding learners through the process of creating their own sculptures by carving bars of soap. Learners begin by looking at artists who work with carved materials, then sketch simple organic forms, such as fish or abstract shapes, for inspiration. They explore shaping, smoothing and texturing soap using everyday tools like clay shapers, teaspoons and cocktail sticks, building confidence in three-dimensional making.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Sculpture and 3D: Mega materials unit, this lesson helps learners develop spatial awareness, fine motor skills and creative expression through hands-on sculptural techniques.
