Collecting colours, textures and patterns

This Art and design video introduces learners to the design process through textile-inspired craft, using the rainforest as a source of rich visual inspiration. Learners begin by creating observational drawings from rainforest imagery and real-life plants, then collect colour, texture and pattern references to assemble a mood board. These mood boards serve as a creative foundation for developing printed fabric designs later in the unit.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Craft and design: Fabric of nature unit, this lesson helps learners develop observational drawing skills and understand how visual research supports design thinking.
