Creating symmetry with flip patterns

This Art and design video supports teachers in guiding learners through the process of creating symmetrical flip patterns from their own geometric drawings. The activity builds on learners’ understanding of symmetry and reflection, introducing a new way to transfer and repeat designs using tracing paper. This encourages accuracy, pattern recognition and confident linework.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Making connections: Exploring geometric patterns unit, this lesson helps children refine drawing and symmetry skills while applying creative decision-making in colour and composition.
