Drawing detailed portraits using grids

This Art and design video shows learners how to use a grid technique to create their own photorealistic self-portrait. Step by step, learners are guided to transfer and outline an image with precision before choosing how to add colour or tone in their own creative style. They are encouraged to observe carefully and select a method, for example, colourful pencil, pen or paint, that reflects their artistic intentions.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, created to support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design curriculum framework (0067). In the Craft and design: Photo opportunity unit, this lesson develops observation, shading, and mark-making skills through the lens of contemporary and traditional portraiture.
