Getting started with block coding

This Computing video introduces learners to the MakeCode platform and shows how to create a simple block-based program using the on start block. Learners are guided through opening the editor, exploring the coding area, using the micro:bit simulator and building their first program by displaying a smiley face on the virtual micro:bit.

This video is part of Kapow’s Computing resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Computing curriculum framework (0059). It forms part of the Stage 2 unit Block coding, helping learners build confidence with coding through hands-on, visual programming in a browser-based environment.
