Differentiation

Learners needing support

  • Could use a tray or surface to help control the paint, especially for techniques like dripping or pouring. They should attach their paper inside the tray with sticky tack and blend the paints by moving the tray.
  • Should be encouraged to explain their colour and shape choices simply, showing how they link to the emotion they want to show in their artwork.
  • Could use pictures or objects to help them remember a time when they felt a strong emotion, which they can then use as inspiration for their artwork.

Learners working at a stretch

  • Could invent their own ways of using the tools to apply paint, create textures and explore new techniques.
  • Should be encouraged to talk about the formal elements (colours, shapes, textures, lines) in their artwork, explaining how these choices help show the feeling they want to express.
