Show the image of a completed clay tile. Working in pairs, ask learners to discuss what techniques have been used to create the different shapes and textures. Encourage learners to think about the tools used and how they would have been used.

Differentiation
Learners needing support:
- Could be reminded to cut around the card tile templates.
- Should be reminded to score and slip shapes to stick them to the tiles.
- Could watch the Learner video: House tiles more than once. Stop after each action to give learners time to copy the action.
Learners working at a stretch:
- Should be more ambitious with their tile design, perhaps trying out a few options before deciding what looks good. Remind learners that to change marks, they can smooth the clay.
- Should reflect on their work, naming the techniques that they have used.
