Unit outcomes
Learners who are secure will be able to:
- Use their observational skills to create detailed botanical drawings.
- Make a cyanotype print inspired by the work of Anna Atkins.
- Create abstract drawings of flowers in the style of Georgia O’Keefe.
- Make a botanical collage inspired by the work of Beatriz Milhazes.
- Make a sculpture in the style of Dale Chihuly’s glass sculptures.
- Take photographs of their artwork, choosing different compositions.

This unit offers learners the opportunity to consolidate and apply their learning from the previous Stage 3 Art and design units.Lessons
Lesson 1: Botanical drawing
- To apply observational drawing skills to create a detailed drawing.
Lesson 2: Botanical prints
- To make a print using negative space and composition skills, inspired by Anna Atkins.
Lesson 3: Abstract flowers
- To explore composition and scale to create abstract drawings.

- To create a botanical collage inspired by Beatriz Milhazes.

- To understand how art can be many things and made in different ways.
