Recap and recall

Check learners can recall: How to use observational skills to look closely and reflect some of the formal elements of art (colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space) in their work. How to create tone in drawing by shading.

Differentiation

Learners needing support:

  • Could be encouraged to focus on just one part, such as a petal. 
  • Could find it helpful to look at a petal detached from the plant to draw the shape on its own.
  • Could stick the part of the flower next to their work to draw the shape a few times and practise sketching with light pressure. 
  • Should use the magnifying glass to study the details of the petal and add these.


Learners working at a stretch:
  

  • Could work in monotones, using shading to add different tones of black.
  • Could be encouraged to add tones of colour to their drawing. 
  • Could use watercolour paints to add a wash of colour, creating lighter tones by adding water to dilute the colour.
