Giant spider model
This Art and design video guides learners through the process of creating a giant spider sculpture, inspired by Louise Bourgeois’s Maman. Working in groups, children learn how to roll sheets of newspaper tightly to form sturdy tubes, which are then joined together with masking tape to create the spider’s legs and body. The video models each step clearly, encouraging teamwork, focus and perseverance as the class builds a large-scale collaborative sculpture.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. It helps learners develop construction skills, spatial awareness and creative problem-solving. By taking part in this imaginative group project, children explore sculpture in a fun and ambitious way, learning how simple materials can be transformed into striking three-dimensional art.
