Decorating clay tiles with texture

This Art and design video teaches learners how to create a clay tile using both relief and impressed techniques. Learners roll out a tile, cut it to shape and decorate it by joining clay shapes with the score and slip method and pressing objects into the surface to create textures and patterns. The video encourages creative exploration while practising key clay skills.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). It helps learners understand how to build up and work into a clay surface using tools, shapes and textures. As part of the Sculpture and 3D: Clay houses unit, this lesson encourages learners to combine their skills thoughtfully to produce detailed, decorative tile designs.
