Charcoal drawing inspired by prehistoric art

This Art and design video introduces learners to drawing with charcoal, one of the oldest art materials. Children learn how to scale up their animal sketches, apply charcoal dust to create textured backgrounds and use charcoal sticks for bold outlines and shading. They complete their prehistoric-style artworks with simple decorative patterns.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design curriculum framework (0067). In the Painting and mixed media: Prehistoric painting unit, this lesson challenges learners to apply and blend charcoal in the style of cave artists.
