Material exploration for expressive sculpture

This Art and design video guides learners through an exploration of how flat materials can be transformed into three-dimensional forms. Learners experiment with twisting, folding, tearing and weaving a range of materials such as paper, tissue, fabric and string. The activity builds confidence in handling materials and supports creative exploration of texture, shape and structure.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design curriculum framework (0067). In the Stage 5 Art and design skills unit, this lesson helps learners discover how to manipulate simple materials in preparation for creating their own expressive sculptures.
