Face shapes

This Art and design video introduces learners to the idea of building portraits using simple shapes, helping them observe facial features in a new and creative way. Inspired by Paul Klee’s artwork Senecio, children are encouraged to look closely at a face and identify shapes like circles, triangles, rectangles, and organic forms to represent each part. The video models how to draw these shapes onto a photo, helping learners break down complex images into simpler forms.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. It helps learners develop their observation and drawing skills while building confidence in using shapes as the foundation for portrait-making. By exploring abstract techniques in a step-by-step process, children begin to see how line and shape can work together to express ideas in art.
