Textile design using glue batik
This Art and design video introduces learners to a simplified version of the traditional batik technique, using glue and paint to create patterns on fabric. Inspired by their abstract animal drawings, learners draw with glue to form a resist, then paint over the dried glue using colours from their mood boards. Finally, they wash away the glue to reveal their designs, developing an understanding of texture, pattern and textile processes.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). In the Stage 4 Craft and design: Fabric of nature unit, this lesson helps learners experiment with decorative techniques and understand how traditional craft methods can be adapted for creative expression.
