What makes a good algorithm?
This Stage 1 Computing video introduces learners to commands and algorithms, showing how they help computers and robots follow instructions to complete tasks.
The video explains that commands tell a computer to do one thing, like pressing a button to turn on a speaker. It then shows that when we want a computer to do more, we must give it a set of commands called an algorithm. Everyday examples such as recipes, brick-building guides and game rules help learners see that algorithms are all around us. The video highlights that algorithms need to be clear, written in the right order and include all the correct steps to work properly.
This video is part of Kapow’s Computing resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Computing Curriculum Framework (0059). In the Algorithms unplugged unit, this lesson helps learners understand that algorithms are step-by-step instructions that computers and humans can both follow to complete a task.
