Adapting plans into abstract sculpture
This Art and design video guides learners through the process of making collaborative abstract sculptures using a card and simple joining techniques. Learners refer to their visual journal plans to guide their ideas but are encouraged to problem solve and adapt as they build. They explore shaping, balancing and fixing materials to create freestanding three-dimensional forms, while working together and reviewing their work from different angles.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). In the Stage 3 Sculpture and 3D: Abstract shape and space unit, this lesson helps learners apply their designs practically, develop spatial awareness and experiment with materials in a creative and collaborative way.
