Layering colour

This Art and design video shows learners how to enhance their drawings by layering colours to create rich tones and depth. They practise combining different coloured pencils to produce more vibrant, realistic effects and explore how varying pressure and direction when shading can create smoother, more even textures. The video encourages experimentation to build confidence in blending and tonal layering.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. As part of the Drawing with realism: Exploring tone, texture and proportion unit, this lesson helps children refine their use of colour, tone and texture to create lifelike drawings.
