Making art inspired by prehistory
This Art and design video guides learners through the process of creating a prehistoric-style painting on a textured cave wall background. Learners begin by redrawing their animal using a black crayon, then mix and apply colours inspired by natural pigments such as red ochre, burned umber and charcoal. They practise painting in one direction, applying colour smoothly and adding patterns or fur textures to bring their animal to life.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design curriculum framework (0067). In the Painting and mixed media: Prehistoric painting unit, this lesson supports learners to create artwork inspired by prehistoric people, applying their painting skills in new, creative ways.
