Designing patterns from animal drawings

This Art and design video guides learners through the process of designing a textile pattern inspired by their abstract animal drawings. Using tracing techniques, they explore shape, repetition and composition to develop a pattern design. Learners are encouraged to add details and connect shapes creatively. They take inspiration from designers like William Morris and their own mood boards.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). In the Stage 4 Craft and design: Fabric of nature unit, this lesson supports learners in developing pattern design skills and preparing for fabric-based artwork.
