This Art and design video encourages learners to explore creative ways of joining recycled materials to create their own sculptures, inspired by the work of artist El Anatsui. Learners experiment with techniques such as threading, weaving, layering, and fixing using glue, tape, string or staples. They are guided to make decisions about materials, colour, texture and construction, and to consider how their sculpture could be displayed.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. As part of the Mega materials unit, this lesson helps children develop practical making skills and a resourceful approach to sustainable, creative design.
