Using shapes to start sketching

This Art and design video teaches learners how to see like an artist by identifying simple shapes within objects. Learners develop sketching skills by using light pencil lines and a shading grip to map out forms. They practise drawing from observation, breaking down real-life objects into geometric and organic shapes before refining and adding details.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design curriculum framework (0067). As part of the Drawing: Developing drawing skills unit, this lesson supports learners to use shapes in their drawings.
