Showing texture and tone

This Art and design video helps learners explore how to use different lines, marks and patterns to show both texture and tone in their drawings. By experimenting with techniques such as crosshatching, they learn how to vary pressure and spacing to suggest light, shadow and surface qualities. These skills help create more realistic and expressive artwork.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. As part of the Drawing with realism: Exploring tone, texture and proportion unit, this lesson builds learners’ confidence in using tonal shading and mark making to represent form and texture.
