Memory sketches with expressive lines

This Art and design video shows learners how to create expressive drawings using felt tip pens and water to achieve effects inspired by artist Charlie Mackesy. Learners practise sketching a memory image, exploring tone, movement and emotion through varied linework and gentle washes of colour.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). In the Stage 5 Drawing: Expressive drawing and mark making unit, this lesson encourages learners to experiment with tools and techniques that communicate emotion through line and colour.
