Transforming materials
This Art and design video introduces learners to wool wrapping, a simple fibre art technique used by some contemporary artists. Learners choose an object, such as a stick or card shape, and explore how to wrap it with wool, selecting colours, measuring lengths and learning how to change or join threads as they work. The video encourages careful handling, creative choices and reflection on how wrapping transforms everyday materials.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework. As part of the unit Craft and design: Woven wonders, it helps learners develop fine motor skills and explore the expressive potential of texture, colour and shape. Through this hands-on activity, learners begin to understand how artists use materials in inventive ways and how wrapping can turn ordinary objects into something new.
