This Art and design video explains how to help children learn how to “see like an artist” by looking closely at real objects and identifying the shapes that make them. Pupils practise sketching lightly using the side of a pencil to outline basic forms. They learn how observational drawing starts with noticing shapes, not details, and how sketching helps plan artwork and refine ideas.
