3D colour drawings

This Art and design video explains how to help children develop their understanding of tone, one of the six formal elements of art, by creating realistic 3D planet drawings. Using chalk and soft pastels, learners experiment with blending techniques to create light and dark areas, giving their planets a spherical appearance. They’re encouraged to explore colour mixing and tonal contrast to replicate the look of planets like Jupiter.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. It builds children’s confidence with materials and supports their ability to observe, experiment, and represent form through tone and colour.
