Drawing three-dimensional planets
This Art and design video explains how to help children develop their understanding of tone by creating realistic 3D planet drawings. Using chalk and soft pastels, learners experiment with blending techniques to create light and dark areas, giving their planets a spherical appearance. They are encouraged to explore colour mixing and tonal contrast to replicate the look of planets like Jupiter.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Stage 2 Art and design skills unit, this lesson builds children’s confidence with materials and supports their ability to observe, experiment and represent form through tone and colour.
