Exploring expressive faces

This Art and design video explains how to teach children how to use simple lines to show emotions on characters’ faces. They explore how changing the position of eyebrows, eyelids and mouths can suggest different expressions like anger, surprise or tiredness. Learners sketch a friend and experiment with drawing expressive comic-style faces in their visual journals.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Making connections: Superheroes unit, this lesson inspires learners to apply expressions to illustrate a character.
