This Art and design video supports teachers in guiding learners through the process of creating detailed botanical drawings. Learners focus on a small section of a real flower, enlarging and refining their sketch using dark pencil, pen or ink. The video also encourages learners to observe closely, use shading techniques to show tone and consider adding delicate watercolour washes to suggest colour and form.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Stage 3 Art and design skills unit, this lesson helps learners develop their observational drawing, fine motor control and use of tonal variation.
