Exploring pattern for product design

This Art and design video encourages learners to imagine how their repeating pattern designs could be used on real-life products. Learners explore the connection between craft and the design industry by arranging copies of their tile to create a repeated pattern, then think about how it might look on items like cushions, curtains or clothing. They also reflect on the full design journey from initial drawing to product idea.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Craft and design: Fabric of nature unit, this lesson helps children understand the applications of design in the creative industries and consider pattern design as a form of functional art.
