Planning textured clay tile features
This Art and design video supports teachers in guiding learners through the design process for a clay house tile. Inspired by the work of sculptor Rachel Whiteread, learners create detailed drawings of houses, planning which features will be joined in relief and which will be impressed into the clay. The video encourages discussion about architectural features and how different tools and techniques might be used in the next clay session.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). It helps teachers confidently lead design-focused lessons that support creativity, planning and reflective thinking. As part of the Sculpture and 3D: Clay houses unit, this lesson builds essential design skills and prepares learners for translating their ideas into three-dimensional clay artwork.
