Turning maps into printed art

This Art and design video supports teachers in guiding learners through the process of transforming their map drawings into printed artworks. Using polystyrene tiles, children create simple printing blocks and explore printmaking techniques to produce their own maps in relief. They then make creative decisions about how to display their prints, turning them into mobiles, collages or sculptural forms.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). It helps teachers lead exploratory printmaking sessions with confidence, encouraging learners to reflect, refine and express their ideas through creative risk-taking. As part of the Craft and design: Map it Out unit, this lesson gives children the opportunity to develop and present their work in imaginative and personal ways.
