Drawing for design

This Art and design video supports learners in developing observational drawing skills through abstraction. Using a viewfinder, learners select and draw four different sections of an animal image, exploring line, shape, and texture in close detail. They use oil pastels or other materials to build bold, textured studies that will form the basis of abstract patterns in the next lesson.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. As part of the Fabric of nature unit, this lesson helps learners observe closely, experiment with media, and begin to translate natural forms into design ideas.
