Observing and drawing texture and tone
This Art and design video supports teachers in guiding learners to develop greater control in tonal shading and mark making. The lesson introduces how to observe and draw light, shadow and texture more carefully, using objects such as sweets and bakery treats to explore a variety of surfaces. Learners build their understanding of proportion and spatial relationships as they compare scale and placement in their drawings.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Drawing with realism: Exploring tone, texture and proportion unit, this lesson helps learners develop more accurate, confident observational drawing through exploration of tone and surface detail.
