Moving for health and happiness
Research shows there are five ways to help improve wellbeing: Discover, Take notice, Connect, Give and Move. Using findings from the New Economics Foundation, MIND and the NHS, Kapow has built these strands into every wellbeing unit.
This video explores the Move strand, which focuses on breaking down barriers and showing that being active is inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. Lessons empower children to make positive choices about movement, challenge misconceptions about exercise and, most importantly, have fun.
Children learn that being active does not always mean high-intensity exercise. Activities such as yoga, walking, gardening and Tai Chi all contribute to better physical and mental health. The strand highlights that our bodies are made to move and even small changes, like walking to school, can make a big difference.
Lessons encourage children to find ways to build more movement into everyday life, improving mood, sleep, strength, focus and overall wellbeing.
