Creating with fibre techniques

This Art and design video supports teachers in guiding learners through the final stage of a collaborative fibre art project. Children build their own box looms using string and recycled cardboard, learning how to space and secure the warp threads in both directions. Once the loom is ready, they begin combining the fibre techniques they have learned (wrapping, plaiting, threading, knotting and weaving) to create a rich, textural artwork.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Craft and design: Woven wonders unit, this lesson helps teachers feel confident leading an open-ended session that encourages creativity, independence and skill consolidation. As learners bring together a variety of materials and techniques, they reflect on their creative choices and celebrate their progress.
