Looking closely to add detail

This Art and design video explains how to encourage children to observe objects closely and add detail to their drawings. Learners learn to look carefully at shape, texture and light, translating what they see into expressive marks. They practise drawing from observation using real objects, noticing fine details and representing different textures through the marks they make.

This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design Curriculum Framework (0067). As part of the Drawing: Developing drawing skills unit, this lesson inspires learners to add detail to drawings through careful observation of shapes, colours, tones and textures.
