Painting techniques
This Art and design video introduces a range of expressive painting techniques and encourages learners to explore how painters apply paint in different ways. Learners experiment with methods such as dabbing, stippling, washes, pointillism and adding texture to paint using materials like sand or oats. They then apply these techniques to paint a simple three-dimensional object, focusing on showing light and shadow using tints and shades.
This video is part of Kapow’s Art and design resources, which support the Cambridge Primary Art & Design framework. As part of the Light and dark unit, this lesson helps learners explore diverse painting methods and understand how technique can affect the mood and surface of a painting.
