Exploring motion with Scratch coding

In this lesson, children create their own motion detection game using Scratch. They begin by adding the video sensing extension, then choose a sprite such as a balloon or ball, which changes colour when triggered by movement.

Children drag blocks to make the sprite react to motion, play a sound, move to a random position, and change costume. If the motion detection is too sensitive, they can adjust the number setting.

Finally, children experiment with their code to see how different changes affect the sprite’s movement and reactions, developing creativity and problem-solving skills.
